Local SEO basics

  • GBP (Google Business Profile) β€” the profile representing your business on Google Maps/Search (formerly Google My Business).
  • Local pack β€” the top 3 businesses + map block Google shows for a local search.
  • Relevance β€” how well your profile matches the search query (category, services, description).
  • Proximity β€” your physical distance to the searcher.
  • Prominence β€” how well-known/trusted the business is (reviews, photos, directories, web).
  • NAP β€” Name, Address, Phone; the core identity info that must be consistent across the web. See NAP consistency.
  • Citation β€” a listing of the business on a directory/social/map site.

Grid metrics

  • ARP (Average Rank Position) β€” the average rank over only the points where you appear.
  • ATRP (Average Total Rank Position) β€” the average over all points; points where you're invisible are penalized (21).
  • SoLV (Share of Local Voice) β€” the % of points where you're top-3.

Profile terms

  • Primary category β€” the single category that best describes your business (the heaviest relevance signal).
  • Additional categories β€” categories for the other services you offer (optimal 4-9).
  • Completion score β€” how many of the profile's critical fields are filled.
  • Service area β€” regions served by businesses where customers don't come to an address.
  • Attribute β€” amenities your category supports (payment, accessibility, social media URLs).

Content terms

  • Post types β€” Update (STANDARD), Offer (OFFER), Event (EVENT).
  • CTA β€” the action button on a post (Book, Order, Call…).
  • EXIF geotag β€” location metadata embedded in a photo. Note: Google doesn't use it for ranking. See GeoTag.
